My NY

But what are you doing to my NY?
To my happy place and that of so many others?
To the place where dreams are made of and magic flows in all directions with infinite possibilities

The place where without a passport you are able to go from China to Italy taking a few steps from Baxter St to Mulberry St
Where a drive to Brooklyn can be a trip to the islands without hopping on a plane to get some authentic coco bread as if you were in Jamaica
Taking it over to Bay Ridge you are romantically enthralled by the enchantment of the Middle East in kebabs and kanafeh
The place where I learned that tinga is a Mexican dish very different from my word of choice with a p instead of a t
The place that has sprinkles from all over the world within the boroughs

To my favorite place at Christmas time
Where the storefront displays market love and unity by bringing so many people together

Why are you looting the dreamland?
Looting in now way makes anything right
Neither does throwing a tantrum nor kicking and screaming as we have learned as children
In kindergarten we were taught that love gets us further than anything else
And now at a time where love needs to be expressed most
People are making it scarce
Reflecting anything but and losing sight of the important thing
Humanity
Humanity is what’s important and coming together as a people to bring forth understanding

Separating yourself from love can be self sabotage
Almost like a good branch that would snap itself off a tree
It just doesn’t do any good
To make a point clear, hold hands and show unity in kindness
Reacting with love, let the tears roll down the face and cleanse the inside as it must
But don’t fill yourself with anger
It will do you no good and take away from your magic…

It Takes Growth & Maturity

January just started and with all these resolutions for a new year new me
You would think that more people would have a bigger regard for the gift of life and growth
You would think that as time goes one of the best lessons learned would be to use words
And not violence to bring forth a point

Yet for some people it’s something that seems non-existent
Take our American president of the moment
Sad to say that Donald Trump, commander in chief is making moves on the
Chess board of life without thinking
Just moving across the board to his liking as if it were a ski mountain, forgetting that
other people ski just the same and it would be nice if he were more careful so as not to
Run into anyone

But he hasn’t and he doesn’t
This adult man is a senior citizen that doesn’t seem to have a regard for life
His team doesn’t seem to think about what adulthood really is
Being mature to think things through and considering the consequences of an individual’s actions

In kindergarten teachers tell children to use their words and watch what they say at the same time
We are taught that tantrums bring us no where and neither does violence
Really it can just give you an ulcer that never goes away and brings forth more complications

Donald Trump is feeling like an ulcer that’s bringing forth more complications
The only way to get rid of such is to meditate and slow down without violence
Using words to communicate not handing out arms to scared humans were born to love
Not risk their life because of a tantrum felt by a man in power
A man in power that at 65+ years has so much to learn about the meaning of life
And what it is to be a good human

Had it been him going out to fight I’m sure his stance would have been very different
It appears that he would never go out on a duel, for his ego is too large to even contemplate loss
But his heart seems rather small to know love, for himself or for others…

So grown and yet so sad

Beliefs

image
It's not that she switched over
It's not that she changed
It was that she found her way

Her journey began at childhood
With the beliefs that were instilled in her
With the beliefs that lead her to learn more

And with that more she did't question
but came to a realization
That which she thought was no longer true for her

The Christian teachings she thought to be
Were no longer for her
Not because she didn't believe
But because she was wanted to be free

In the Maccabees she learned of the battle fought
to let go of all things that did not pertain to God
those idols that some held on to
were no longer for her

Her belief in life that God alone is her path
lead to her to Judaism
Not because she didn't believe in Jesus
No it's not that
It's that she believed that in order to be saved
all you need is God

You need not pray to anyone else but God
This came to be her belief
and not in anything else
because God alone has power over her

Whatever may be in tartarus may be
But to her
it's only One that she can believe in
This is where she found her peace

In accepting that everyone has a different path
everyone will have a different belief
and it is not at all bad
because all are God's children
and all are to coexist in tolerance and love

She found her spiritual growth in the God of Jerusalem
But that doesn't mean one cannot find Him in Allah
In the New Testament with Jesus
In the words of Confucius or even Vatsayana
She won't know knock it
But she already knows
that she doesn't have to try it

Wherever you look
He is there
Waiting to welcome you in
And hoping that you are just as accepting
of everyone else
as He is of you

Nice

In the beginning, our school teachers
did nothing but teach us to 'play nice' and befriend 'the new kid'
Our fellow 7 year old peers would say
'stop being a baby cry' and the very famous 'don't be a tattle tale'

And then we grew up and somehow forgot about
these simple but important things in life
To 'play nice' and be fair with our fellow human beings
ie stop spreading petty gossip
It does nothing for you–but draw away from your goodness

Instead of befriending the new kid
We have gone on to make fun of their differences
To shun them for things they have no control of
We have made them feel worse for being who they are

We have forgotten to be welcoming and make them feel at home
Somehow hospitality has been thrown out the window
Especially here, the place that prides itself with Lady Liberty

You know, the gift from the French that stand on Ellis Island
Where so many immigrants first step foot as they reached
The Land of the Free

This world is big enough for everyone
and then some
So why are we being so cruel?
Why can we not accept those migrants that have
Come from so far
To make a better living for themselves and their families

They want what we came here for
The American Dream
With hopes to one day return to that place
They once called home and say 'hey I made it,
With the help of some awesome people
That did nothing but make me feel at home'

Why can't we just embrace it?
The difference that makes this world go 'round
And has gifted us with so much beauty
I mean our fries are 'French' are they not?

It's time to stop being a tattle tale and pointing out the obvious
We're all different
It's time to stop being a 'baby cry' in a grown up pity party
It's time to let the new kid know that your the Fonz and say
'ey!' your more than ok! and have some Happy Days

Because in the end, it's what we all want
Happy Days
Full of kindness
Let's just play nice–it's much less stressful
