the Magic

Do you know why NY has never left you?

Because it was magical

An experience like no other

None of it was planned

Yet it happened as if the two were actors in a movie

Following a script that was just too perfect

From the holding each other close in the rain and running to take the train

It was all so magical

The scenes that followed after even more so

Videos & face times

The sweetest ever

Messages and emojis

Between two young kids growing and learning their way in the world

It will always be special

It will always be magical and held in a high regard

Because it will forever be beautiful

Perhaps other people may miss out on the story

It may be too good to believe anyway

But for those two young lovers that lived it

It will always remain true

A testament that magic is real

And that sometimes you just have to let it happen

So here’s to NY

The city of love more so than Paris

Because it happens when you least expect it

Making you the most thankful for the experiences that follow

To NY

Now with some drinks & a smoke

Bearing it All

Sometimes when I write I feel like I’m baring it all for everyone to see
When you’re physically naked it’s like ok well that’s what it is
But when it’s all emotional–there is just something else there
Can swirl the butterflies a bit-yes it could be that I just made that up

But here’s to swirling the butterflies and being a little naked
Unzipping the jacket that covers the heart…

Directed to a certain someone that shall remain nameless–

It’s something that I may not admit to you ever
But maybe I did just fall in love with you after it was all over
See I felt so many things at once
It was a wave of emotions and something new that I couldn’t quite process yet
In my mind I had to wait
I had to have more physical experiences with you
Not just messages and FaceTime calls

And when I was with you I felt loved
Thinking about it now it was almost like a rom-com and we were the main characters
The two that people are always rooting for because it seems so right

But though it did
My mind worked over time and just questioned things
Asking myself ‘can this really be?’
Perhaps it could have
It really could have
But at a slower pace
To really see how things could be

But then life happened and the messages became less and less
To the point that what I sent wasn’t lost in space, just left unanswered
And I would have completely understood if you would have told me that you met someone
I would have sent you well wishes because you’re great and you deserve it

But you didn’t say anything
And I respected and still do respect your silence
With admiration for the relationship you have now
Because I really do want you to be happy
I feel that I could tell you I love you looking you straight in the eyes
Not because I want you to overthink your relationship or push me away completely
But because I genuinely want you to love
To have that beautiful relationship that sprouts when two people meet and work together
To make things better, learn from each other and continue growing every day in love and so many other good things

However I won’t say that to you
I won’t say anything at all
I’ll let my words stay on a page
Maybe say them one day, imagining that they reach your ears
And that you know that I want you to be happy
Feeling the love vibes that I’m sending you
Knowing that its a different friendship between me and you…

My NY

But what are you doing to my NY?
To my happy place and that of so many others?
To the place where dreams are made of and magic flows in all directions with infinite possibilities

The place where without a passport you are able to go from China to Italy taking a few steps from Baxter St to Mulberry St
Where a drive to Brooklyn can be a trip to the islands without hopping on a plane to get some authentic coco bread as if you were in Jamaica
Taking it over to Bay Ridge you are romantically enthralled by the enchantment of the Middle East in kebabs and kanafeh
The place where I learned that tinga is a Mexican dish very different from my word of choice with a p instead of a t
The place that has sprinkles from all over the world within the boroughs

To my favorite place at Christmas time
Where the storefront displays market love and unity by bringing so many people together

Why are you looting the dreamland?
Looting in now way makes anything right
Neither does throwing a tantrum nor kicking and screaming as we have learned as children
In kindergarten we were taught that love gets us further than anything else
And now at a time where love needs to be expressed most
People are making it scarce
Reflecting anything but and losing sight of the important thing
Humanity
Humanity is what’s important and coming together as a people to bring forth understanding

Separating yourself from love can be self sabotage
Almost like a good branch that would snap itself off a tree
It just doesn’t do any good
To make a point clear, hold hands and show unity in kindness
Reacting with love, let the tears roll down the face and cleanse the inside as it must
But don’t fill yourself with anger
It will do you no good and take away from your magic…

What could have been...

Like everyone else in the big city
She was in a social rush to look busy and important
However just as the machine spit out her new Metro card
She couldn't help but notice him
With that air of mystique
Looking like Clark Kent
In his squared framed glasses
Clean shaven face
Dark and amazing hair
White tee shirt for that underrated simplicity of chicness

It also helped that he was about 6'3
So she looked right at him and then left
Before making her descent down to the humid platform
Where the number one was drawn it in white against a bright red dot
On the edge of the platform was a yellow line from end to end
One that highlighted what could be the danger zone
In the absence of a train

But she didn't notice
Because as she made her way into the cart
Clark Kent was a somehow a few steps ahead
And walked in front of her

Inside the silver tube
The orange and yellow plastic seats invited her to sit down
Yet knowing she should, she didn't
She stood against the ever sliding doors
So as to be able to glance at her right
Into the eyes of Mr. Kent

He said nothing
But still he looked at her
The woman from across the train was friendly
And went over to make conversation
As this happened, Mr. Kent listened intently
Trying to find as much information as possible

But nothing too personal was said
Therefore it was going to be a little harder for him to trace her later
Her new friend's stop cam and off she went
His stop came and so he went
Her stop was next and off she went

Off to wonder what could have been
If perhaps Mr. Kent would have said hello
Or if she would have simply asked him to saver her
With a smile and a stretched out arm
In which her card would be on her hand
With her phone number for him to call…

In the Jungle

image
Yes the commute can be a hassle, but she loves it
She loves being able to wake up in the morning
Knowing that she is about to enter the world
Full of glowing outfits and different tourists

It's the possibility of new friends that moves her
The nuisance of movies being filmed that redirect the traffic
The cabbies that prefer to drop you off at their convenience
When you are clearly paying for them to drive you!
It's that daily argument between those coming and going across the street
The constant rush of bags swooshing against bodies
Shoes patting and heels clacking across the floor

She enjoys taking it all in and seeing how life just never stops
How one island can hold so much difference at once
It's a world within itself
A culture to be experienced
But more than that, to be enjoyed

It's the concrete jungle
And she wouldn't change it for the world!
