His birthday is in less than a week

It's rather exciting

He's a special man who loves me so much

When ever I need someone to talk to, he listens

His dad is awesome too

I'm pretty sure he loves me, because I can call him at random hours

and I know it's ok

Because of Him, I keep warm at night

Because of Him, I see the sun during the day

He's just so special to me

He keeps me strong

So for his birthday, I will show how much I love Him

A Toast

You know, I had thought about asking you

"what would happen if I asked you to kiss me?"

Would you look at me and lean in?

Would you stroke my cheek and kiss my lips?

Would you hold my hand and smile?

Would you bring my hand to your lips and keep it there a while?

It happened oh so fast that I was thrown off

I was surprised and didn't know what to do

As a kid, snow was so much

It meant playing outside

Making snow angels

and no school!!!

As an adult, snow is so much

It means plowing the driveway

Salting the sidewalk

Scraping the car window

and driving to work in snow!!!

I loved you and you loved me

It was always us three

Then somehow things changed and to the three were added three

To those were added four and then too many more

It made us see that somehow we just couldn't be

As hard as it was, afterwards I was able to breathe

I was able to see that maybe it wasn't for me

The hands of time wiggled their fingers and here we are today

We each went our own way and somehow found each other to simply say "hey"

Well "hey" is really all I can say

I do not begrudge or want to judge you and it's not that I found someone new

Or perhaps I did, and that person is myself

Somehow I found my health one which has come with much stealth

I see things differently now

Sometimes we can love and love

But sometimes it's better to do it from afar

To spare us the fear that later brings tears

So I must tell you now that after so much, it's best to not retouch

The band-aid is gone, but the scar is still there
